My goal is to start making at least weekly updates with the random thoughts from the week. No real flow, no real rhyme or reason, just the things that are rumbling around in my head that I need an outlet for.
So if you’re following along, thanks.
I’m really hoping that my wife is on the road to recovery. She’s been sick, nauseous, without appetite, and in pain for a week. Thanks to a trip to the doctor today, she seems to be getting better. Hopefully she can eat a decent dinner tonight without issues and start recovery.
And speaking of recovery, I’m still praying for my friend Karen Zuber, who is having to deal with medical issues of her own. She’s been in the hospital fighting lung issues for over two weeks (I think more near three, actually), and has a long road to recovery ahead of her. Thankfully, she has an amazing husband in Mike Zuber, my brother in Christ who is as close to me as my own family. And with the love of her daughter Megan and son Matt, Karen has a lot of support helping her through this.
Okay, here’s some random thoughts on more wide ranging issues. I’m gonna get the elephant in the room addressed now; politics. Yup, I said it. I’m going there. These are my thoughts, I’m entitled to them. Not meant to offend anyone, so if you are offended, all I can say is I’m entitled to my opinion as you are entitled to yours.
On the Democrats/Liberal/Lefty side, frankly, I’m worried about the candidate choices. Looks like there are three choices (eventually); a liar with an entitlement mentality and name legacy, a socialist (cuz we all know how well socialism works), and a gaffe master (because that’s a big effin deal).
When it comes to Billary, I just can’t say I’d ever want to vote for her. Without even commenting on the fact that I have no idea what her particular stances are yet, the controversies around Benghazi and her unsecured email server are enough to make me say I just don’t trust her. Besides, we’ve already had one scandal heavy Clinton in office. I’m not sure I could handle another.
Then there’s the affirmed Socialist. You’ve heard it before, the problem with socialism is that sooner or later, you run out of other people’s money. he wants to promote free college education. That’s a great sentiment, but the problem is it’s not free (neither is The Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare). Someone is paying for it, and those someones are the taxpayers. Government doesn’t have an income except by taxing the citizenry. Government can’t give you free healthcare and free higher education because taxes have to be used to pay for that. And don’t get me started on the “wealthy need to pay their fair share” lines either. Stripping the wealthy of what they earn through their work and investments doesn’t promote growth, it just encourages the wealthy to leave. And if socialism is so great, why do so many people from socialist countries do what they can to come to America? I’ll also direct you to this site for someone’s take on socialism and why it isn’t so great.
Next, the gaffe-master. Seriously, do we really feel our current veep is capable of doing the job? And that’s even if he decides to run. We’ll just have to wait and see.
On the other side of the aisle though, things aren’t that much brighter currently. Where as the previously mentioned side has apparently 3 choices, the Republicans/Conservative/Righty side has a HUGE field that still needs culled down.
The top runner currently is a bloviating, narcissistic, brash loudmouth who is still using a stump speech to speak to the people and get them riled up and excited. But he still hasn’t laid out any real clear plans, and that worries me. Other than vague “I’ll have the best teams” and “I’ll know more about the world than anyone” statements, nothing of substance has slipped out of his oversized jabberjaw.
The second place candidate seems a great guy; soft spoken, calm, collected, and outside the Beltway. Totally different, but being so soft spoken and gentle may work against him. Does he have the intestinal fortitude to stand up when a crisis calls at 3am? I do like his flat tax plan, however.
Then there’s the rising female candidate; also outside the Beltway, capable of taking on issues (see her argument against PP here), and willing to stand up to criticism. But being a business woman and not a politician, is she able to handle the job of President? Well, we’ve had actors as Presidents, so I guess anything is possible.
And all three of those leading candidates have something that’s unique; they are outside the political world; business owners/leaders, and a neurosurgeon. I’m not sure how that would translate into being leader of the free world. Possible drawbacks, possibly not. There’s no requirement that our elected President need be a lawyer (previously), or have military background, or even be a career politician. I think that’s just become the norm expectation.
The remaining candidates each have some substance, and have said certain things I resonate with, but each has drawbacks too. And with the field being so wide, I can’t say for certain who I’d want from that side of the aisle. Needless to say, it’s still to early in the cycle to make a decision.
