Our trivial society

Okay, so I just got done reading a news article on CNN.com and realized how pathetic both the story and myself were.

The article was about George Zimmerman and his booking. Thanks to the media’s access to public records, we know George’s weight, that he is in a 67 sq. Ft cell, can read the bible, and spent about $30 buying some necessities. We even know the balance in his trust account.

Really? Why is this even important enough to get a headline, let alone a printed article?! Are we, as a society, so enraptured with the life of accused criminals (he hasn’t been found guilty of criminal activity yet) that we really need to know how much money is in his detention center bank account?

Apparently, since I read the article, the answer is yes. I feel shame.
